On this moderate hike the Yuba Historical Society leads visitors to a ranch west of the future State Park in Peace Valley on the northern portion of the Sutter Buttes. The five-hour excursion takes hikers through a culturally rich and geologically diverse part of the Buttes. Learn about the Buttes fascinating geology and of the Maidu and Wintun Indians who view the mountain as a sacred landform. The walk is split into two levels. Level 2 traverses gently sloping ground that eventually reaches the base of Cat Rock. Whereas level 3 hikers climb the steep 200 feet up to Cat Rock Cave. The cost of this hike is $15 for YHS members and $25 non-members, for children 12 years old and younger $5/$10. Membership prices start at $15.
