In the later half of April, Ira Heinrich returns to the Buttes. A life-long study of the “Middle Mountain” endows Ira with intricate knowledge of the Sutter Buttes' cultural history. Weaving stories that transports us back in time. From the pioneers who settle Peace Valley after California’s Gold Rush to the Patwin and Maidu Indians who considered the Buttes the center of their religious universe. This easy walk takes place within Peace Valley, on property adjoining the future State Park and includes a visit to Moon Cave, positioned above Cat Rock Creek. The cost of this hike is $15 for YHS members and $25 non-members, for children 12 years old and younger $5/$10.
